HARRIET MAXINE LEE
Keystone
Harriet Lee, 92, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, in the comfort of her home in Menlo Park, Calif.
Her preferred cremation took place Nov. 18 and her ashes were interred Nov. 19 at Alta Mesa Memorial Park, Palo Alto, Calif.
Harriet was born Oct. 4, 1923, the daughter of Harrison Dudley Lee and Thelka Selk Lee. She graduated from Keystone High School in 1941, received her B.A. degree from the University of Nevada in 1948, and her M.S. degree in social work from Columbia University in New York in 1955. She also attended Birmingham University in England under a Fulbright Scholarship Grant from 1957 to 1958. Harriet was married to Bill Binford from 1957 to 1959. From 1959 to 1983, she worked as a social worker for San Mateo County. After retirement she resided in her home in Menlo Park.
During Harriet's youth, she was a babysitter for Ben and Marie Eggers' two children, Barb and Allan (Lanny), in Keystone, Iowa. She also was godmother to Ben and Marie's youngest child, Cathy. She always has been a special person to the Eggers family and considered a member of their family.
She is survived by her nephew, Dennis Lee (Judy) from Oregon and James Lee from La Porte City, Iowa, along with great-nieces and great-nephews and the Eggers family: Barb (Ken DeKlotz), Allan (Lee), Cindy (Rick Jennings), godchild Cathy (Joe Humeniak), Carri Eggers Markoulis and Crisula, and their family members.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents: two brothers, Roy and Kenneth; and three sisters, Dorothy, Lenore and Mae Kay.
Her family extends a special thank-you to Carri Eggers Markoulis and Harriet's caregivers, the Makoni family, for the past four years. Because of their loving care, Harriet got her wish to stay in her home until her passing.
