Dixie Ann Davenport (Mrs. Donald L.) Nacke, 80, of Henderson, Nevada, died peacefully at St. Rose Dominican Hospital – Siena Campus on January 1, 2017 of heart complications.
Mrs. Nacke, daughter of Buster and Vierlyn Davenport, was born November 22, 1936 at Anamosa, Iowa. She was graduated from Anamosa High School and was very active in the community, including being awarded the Miss Eastern Iowa title. She was graduated from the University of Iowa and took her Master of Education degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. While attending the University of Iowa, she was a recording vocalist with the musical group The Hawkeyes and under contract with Capitol Records. She taught English, voice, and drama at Regina High School in Iowa City, Iowa and Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. Prior to her retirement, she did voice-over commercials and worked for many years as a sales woman at Michael Round Fine China and the IT help desk at CTI (for Lockheed Martin).
Dixie Davenport and Donald Nacke were married August 16, 1958 at Saint Patrick's Church, Anamosa, Iowa. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in 2016.
Mrs. Nacke is survived by her husband, Donald, by two sons – Bradford (and Jill) Nacke of Westerville, Ohio and Burton Nacke of Henderson, Nevada, two daughters – Julie (Mrs. Dan) Foster of Fort Worth, Texas and Jill (Mrs. Rob) Reynolds of Henderson, Colorado, and by 6 grandchildren – Ryan Nacke, Alyssa (Mrs. Ryan) Burton, Fiona Baldwin, Garrett Baldwin, Jeffrey Foster, and Jonathan Foster. She is also survived by one brother, Lance (and Carmen) Davenport of Winchester, Virginia, and two sisters, Virginia (Mrs. Thomas) Orendorf of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and Carolyn (Mrs. Michael) Foley of Boerne, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., June 3, 2017, at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial service will immediately follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa, Iowa. A reception for friends and family will be at Saint Patrick's Church after the burial service. From 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., friends and family are invited to join in a joyous 'New Orleans' style celebration of Dixie's life. The event will be held at the Rotary Lodge in the Wapsipinicon State Park.
