Jun. 18, 2015 6:05 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has topped another poll of likely candidates for the 2016 GOP presidential
In an automated telephone survey of 1,235 likely Iowa Republican caucus attendees, Walker was the choice of 19 percent of the respondents, according to the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, which commissioned the poll.
Physician Ben Carson was second with 13 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was the choice of 11 percent in what the association said was the largest poll of likely Iowa Republican caucusgoers on their presidential candidate preference. No other candidate was in double digits. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 9 percent and 8 percent, respectively, rounded out the top five.
Each of the top five candidates has 'either publicly expressed support of leaving the current Renewable Fuel Standard in place or have backed an infrastructure grant program that would help ensure that consumers are allowed choice at the gas pump,” according to Craig Robinson of TheIowaRepublican.com.
IRFA Executive Director Monte Shaw said the results tell him 'Iowans are drawn to candidates who take the time to learn the full story” on renewable fuels issues. It also tells him candidates who campaign in Iowa understand why the RFS is needed, he said.
The poll by Alexandria, Va.-based Advantage, Inc., was conducted June 8-10. The margin of error is +/- 2.8 percent.
