Martin E. Plotz, 88, of Amana, died May 2, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway, by the Rev. Steimel. Visitation will be
Tuesday, May 5, at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Hala Cemetery near Walford.
Martin Edward was born April 6, 1927, near Norway to Frank A. and Anna M. (Hiebel) Plotz.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred; children, Donald (Janet) Plotz, David Plotz, Ann (Duane) Ausdemore, Marla (Joseph) Heffron and Matthew (Wendy) Plotz, and a dear friend, Deb Plotz; 12 grandchildren, Lori (Chris), Scott (Leah), Rachel (Scott), Kimberly (Robert), Karen (Kevin), Tara, Jonathan (Jessica), Leah, Kandice, Michael, Rebecca, Justin and James deceased; three great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Khloe and Ruby; and three great-grandsons, Huck, Hunter and Abel. He also is survived by his brother, Walter (Dolores); and sisters, Margaret Frimml and Agnes Nie.
He was preceded in death by his parents in 1941 and 1944; brother, Edward, in 1926; sister, Lucile, in 1998; brother, Lawrence, in 2006; sister, Irene LaGrange, in 2007; sister, Charmaine Plotz, in 2009; grandson, James Plotz, in 1993; and daughter, Audrey Plotz, in 2008.
Martin received his education at St. Michael's Catholic grade school, graduating from eighth grade. He married Mildred Elizabeth Carlson on June 22, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton.
He had lived near Amana all his life except for two years. He had farmed and done carpentry work, building houses and garages in the Cedar Rapids area. He also operated his saw mill. During the winters, Martin and Mildred spent their time making hall trees and other things for their children and grandchildren.
Martin and Mildred enjoyed traveling on bus trips since 1985. They had visited all 48 continental states, Canada and Mexico.
Grandchildren loved him to read books from the bookcase.
