Kelly Renee (Young) Garner, 50, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from a sudden illness. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, followed by a gathering of family and friends from 3 to 6 p.m. at Blessed Hope Church, Vinton. Pastor Matt Hantz will officiate.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, is in charge of arrangements.
Kelly Renee Young was born Aug. 6, 1965, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton to Gordon Lee and Kathryn (Lund) Young. She graduated from Washington High School in Vinton with the Class of 1984. Kelly enjoyed working at Vinton Family Restaurant (Cafe 218) for the past nine years where the staff became her second family.
In her leisure, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and relaxing after work.
Kelly is survived by her parents, Kathryn Smith and Gordon Young of Vinton; her children, April (Mark Thompson) Young and Dusty (Vanessa) Kearns of Vinton; her grandchildren, Justina, Jeremy, Serenity, Justice, Ryelin, Davis and Sterling; her brothers, Mikki and Ricki Young; and sisters, Kimberly and Wanda Young.
She was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Renae Young, and both sets of grandparents.
