Zach, Marvin L.
Marvin L. Zach, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at his home. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Rick Gail, the Rev. Chuck Stevens and grandson, John Zach. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Patty; sons, Gregory (Kim) and Robert “Bobby” (Micki), both of Cedar Rapids; stepson, Danny Allnutt of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Brandie, Cherie, Daniel (Crystal), John (Jana), Bradley, Sarah, Sheldon and Emily; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathleen Sexton and Judy Phillips, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Terry; and brother, Garfey.
Marvin was born Oct. 22, 1931, the son of Garfey and Esther (DeShaw) Zach, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. Marvin was united in marriage to Patricia White on June 29, 1956. He worked as a machinist for Dearborn Brass for 25 years and then was caretaker for Linwood Cemetery and Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, retiring in 2006.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Marvin.
Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 727.
