Karen Jane Wimer, 56, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 2, 2016. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home by Chaplain Joe Kane. Burial: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Friends Cemetery, New Sharon.
Survivors include her mother, Katherine Wimer; significant other, Ron Bennett and members of his family; brothers, Kevin, Kurt and Kent Wimer; and aunts, uncles and cousins of Katherine's extended family.
Karen was born May 3, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Benny and Katherine (Sparks) Wimer. She attended Harding Middle School and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1977. She also attended Patricia Stevens College in Milwaukee, Wis. Karen was an entertainer and singer joining Ron in their karaoke business, Karonoke. She was also in many area bands, including Stride, Comix and Smooth Maneuvers.
Karen will be remembered for her great singing voice, love of animals, especially her cats, and her creative needlework, crocheting and macrame.
She was preceded in death by her father, Benny; and grandparents, Alvin and Louise Wimer and Millard and Blanche Sparks.
A memorial fund has been established to help animals in need.
