Esther M. (Dostal) Kadlec, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at West Ridge Care Center. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel, 2121 Bowling St. SW, with a vigil service starting at 8 p.m.
Esther was born Oct. 9, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, to Frank and Mary (Rehak) Dostal. She married George Kadlec on Oct. 9, 1951. She retired from Wilson Foods/Farmstead Meatpacking, where she was an active member of the Local P-3 Labor Union. Esther was also involved in the local Democratic Party.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Steve) Myers, Sheila (Paul) Stevens, Robert (Penny), Craig (Julie) and Tim (Lu Ann); 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arnie (Marlie) Dostal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Marvin Dostal and Helen Merta.
