Peter Eichhorn
PETER EICHHORN Wyoming Peter "Pete" Harold Eichhorn, 62, of Wyoming, passed away June 13, 2015, at home surrounded by family following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 7, 1952, in Anamosa, Iowa, to John and Margaret (Deischer) Eichhorn. After graduating from Midland Community High School in 1970, Pete attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1974 with a bachelor's in ag business. In 1975, Pete moved to Molokai, Hawaii, where he worked for Hawaiian Research Ltd. until retiring in 2000. On June 23, 1984, he married Jade Stevens in Molokai. In August 2000, Pete and his family, which by then included two children, relocated to Wyoming, Iowa. Pete served on the Jones County 4-H youth committee, as well as the Jones County Community Foundation board. He could often be found driving the trails on his farmland in his old military Willys Jeep, tending to the land and the trees he planted, hunting for mushrooms and simply enjoying the wildlife around him. Pete especially loved ocean activities and fishing anytime, anywhere with friends and family. In recent years, he became interested in beekeeping and began his own apiary. His family will always remember his free spirit, kind heart, contagious laugh and his great love for his wife and children. Pete is survived by his wife, Jade; son, Cameron (Addie) of North Liberty; daughter, Lindsay of Waverly; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Marion Stevens of Molokai, Haiwaii; brothers, Phil (Carol) Eichhorn of Lake City, Jim Eichhorn of Wyoming and Doug (Val) Eichhorn of Coralville; sisters, Lois Fulton (Tim) of Kenosha, Wis., and Patricia Eichhorn of Fort Collins, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Carol Hobart Eichhorn; infant nephew, Jeffery Eichhorn; and brother-in-law, Brad Stevens. Pete's family will greet friends during a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, at the Lahey Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Camp Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Wyoming or the Holden's Comprehensive Cancer Center at UIHC. The family would like to extend thanks to Above & Beyond Hospice care providers, staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the staff at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
