Kenneth Merwin Jaeger was born June 19, 1920, at home near Anamosa, Iowa, and died Aug. 6, 2016. at Mercy Medical Center-Hallmar, Cedar Rapids. All are invited to a memorial service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2204 26th St. NW, and for refreshments afterward.
Kenneth retired as building engineer for the Cedar Rapids Community School District in 1991. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, Pacific Theater, during World War II, and was awarded a Bronze
Star for bravery in the Battle of Guadalcanal.
Ken was a good husband, good father, good neighbor, good worker and good Christian. He was drawn to the message of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1953, embraced the biblical hope of the coming kingdom of God to bless all families of earth, and became an enthusiastic participant in the global door-to-door witness work, a greater enterprise that he supported to the very end of life. That transcendent purpose led Ken to attend assemblies as a delegate in New York City, Chicago, Kansas City, San Francisco, Vancouver, Canada, and many other venues. Bible in hand, Ken rang thousands of doorbells in Linn County, sharing the "Good news of the kingdom" with householders.
Always outgoing and friendly, he enjoyed this evangelizing doorstep ministry as an outlet for his faith in God and affection for his fellowman.
The world will be poorer without him.
Kenneth married Edna Grace nee Howell in 1942. She preceded him in death in 2000.
He was a parent to Jordan (Pamela) Jaeger, Michael (Janet) Jaeger, Diane (Kenneth) Pobuda and Teresa (Harold) Andersen; grandfather to Kelly (David) McCalley, Yale (Robin) Jaeger, Judah Jaeger, Inga (Stacy) Jaeger-Webster; children of deceased son Michael -- Michelle, Davina, Jeremy and Joshua; Neil (Luz) Pobuda, Angela Stevens, Kristel (Kevin) Krengel and Cassandra (Aaron) Brandon; great-grandfather to Zachary McCalley, Anna Park, Kiersten McCallum, Steven Castelletti, Tory Christensen-Calvin, Iris Webster, Milo Webster, Aquila Pobuda, Alex Stevens and Adrian Stevens; and great-great-grandfather to Rafferty, Summer and Axel.
The family expresses deep appreciation to the staff of Mercy Medical Center, the kind and solicitous staff of Hallmar and the beautiful, supportive people of hospice.
