Pastor George Stevens Sr., 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018, at his home.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Gospel Tabernacle Church, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will be at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Pastor Stevens was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Macon, Miss., the son of John M. and Rosie (Mae) Stevens. He married Beatrice Green on Oct. 12, 1947, in Macon. Beatrice passed away in 2012. Pastor Stevens worked for the railroad system, the City of Cedar Rapids and also was a pastor for Church of God in Christ.
He is survived by his children, George (Diana) Stevens Jr., Cedar Rapids, Charles (Veronica) Stevens, Cedar Rapids, Melvin (Laura) Stevens, of North Carolina, and Anthony Stevens, Cedar Rapids; a host of grand-, great- and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Sadie Verse, Wichita, Kan.
Pastor Stevens was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant daughter; and siblings, Elder Joseph Stevens, John Henry Stevens, Robert Nelson Stevens and Lillie Ruth Baker.
