ROBERT CROCK
Hiawatha
Robert "Bob" Eugene Crock, 77, of Hiawatha,
formerly of Cedar Rapids, won his final victory in life, crossing home to be with Jesus on Sunday, July 20, 2014, following a sudden illness. Celebration of Life services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Pat Fish presiding. Burial will be in Cedar
Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from
4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at Brosh Chapel in
Cedar Rapids.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cherie; brother, Paul (Geri) Crock of Mechanicsville; his sisters, Leona (Les) Johnson of Denver, Colo., and Marie Cook of Mechanicsville; children, Scott (Carmen) Wharton, Paula Wharton (Josh Gilbert), Susan Wenger and Teresa (Shawn) O'Brien, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Abbey Wharton and
Michelle Wharton; sister-in-law, Margot Anderson; and brother-in-law, Gaylen Anderson, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lucille (Harry) Seelman; and two nephews, Jeffrey Anderson and
Richard Crock.
Bob was born April 30, 1937, in Mechanicsville, to Clarence and Nellie (Cessford) Crock. Upon graduation from Tipton High School in 1955, Bob went to work for Rockwell Collins, retiring early at age 55, after 37 years of service. Bob was a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, and IBEW Local 1362, having held the position of union steward.
With Bob's adventuresome spirit, he and Cherie were on the go just about every weekend. Bob was quick to accept a party invite, or to start one himself and loved to debate politics or local/national events over a scotch and water. He had a soft heart and engaging demeanor, who loved and cared about his family and friends. Bob's passion for travel led Cherie and him to visit nearly every U.S. state. He loved to take his grandchildren for fun and inspirational short trips. After a major surgery, Bob was determined to walk the five-mile-long Mackinac Bridge, which he did in 1999.
Bob was a very devoted Green Bay Packer fan.
