Huey, Phyllys A.
Phyllys A. Huey, 89, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon. Per the family's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation services provided by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Siders of Marion; grandson, Christopher M. Siders of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and brother, Doug Franta of Donnellson, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert M. Huey; brother, Stanley Franta; and son-in-law, Gene Siders.
Phyllys was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Thomas and Katherine (Johnson) Franta. She graduated from Lisbon High School, received her B.A. degree from Coe College, and her master's from the University of Northern Iowa. Phyllys married Robert M. Huey on Oct. 15, 1942. He died in 2007. She was a schoolteacher for both the Linn-Mar and Marion Independent School districts for many years.
Phyllys will be remembered for her love of birds and gardening.
