Weihe, Robert W.
Robert W. Weihe, 79, of Coralville, died peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time. Following the service, a reception for family and friends will be held at the funeral home.
Bob was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Wesley and Esther (Burroughs) Weihe. He grew up in Oak Park, Ill., and attended Westminster College and the University of Illinois. In 1953, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean conflict as a commissioned naval aviator. On Sept. 14, 1957, Bob married Lois Sabine in Nashville, Ill. For nearly 35 years, Bob worked as a sales service manager for both Owens Brush Co. and Anchor Brush Co., later retiring in 1990.
In his free time, Bob loved to travel in his motorhome with his wife and family pets. He was also a member of the Coralville United Methodist Church and Military Affairs Association. Most importantly, Bob loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Coralville; a son, John (Patty) Weihe, and their children, Olivia, Griffin and Barrett, of Coralville; a son, Douglas (Theresa) Weihe, and their children, Ella and Sarah, of Coralville; and a daughter, Anne (Steve) Byer, and their children, Dustin and Shelby, of Oceanside, Calif.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William; a daughter-in-law, Judi Weihe; and a grandson, Brock.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Johnson County Humane Society.
