Connie Bauer, 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Brandon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Following services, Connie's wishes were to be cremated. Private family inurnment will be held in Brandon Cemetery at a later date.

Connie Marie Edna Bauer was born Oct. 2, 1949, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, to Walter and Lucille Kavalier Bauer. She attended Brandon Consolidated School through the eighth grade and then attended Washington High School in Vinton, graduating in 1967. She was a long-time employee of Virginia Gay Hospital, working as a lab technician. She retired in April 2015.

Connie's life was dedicated to her family and work. She loved spending time with her loved ones and going to family reunions. She also loved crocheting, reading, knitting and enjoyed trips to Wal-Mart.

Connie is survived by her siblings, LaVon (Robert) Bearbower, Walter (Sharon) Bauer and Steve Bauer, all of Brandon, Karen Johnson of Lena, Ill., and Bruce Bauer and Sherri McGowan, both of Vinton; and three generations of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Larry Truax; brother-in-law, Robert Johnson; sisters-in-law, Carla and Lori Bauer; and two great-nephews.

A memorial fund has been established.
