Robert Anthony Zevenbergen, 20, died tra-gically in a head-on collision in Johnson County the morning of March 20, 2014.
Robert, the son of Peter and Cindy Zevenbergen, Kansas City, Kan., was the center of his parents' world and a blessing for the 20 years of his young life.
Robert's reach extended far and wide with family and many friends around the country who mourn his sudden passing. His friends include people of all ages, colors and walks of life. Robert will be remembered as a wonderful son, a wonderful brother and a wonderful friend. He was a good friend to everyone he met.
Robert was a sensitive person and a good listener. While he was an independent thinker with strong convictions, Robert held no prejudices and was non-judgmental. Robert was a good person. And, in turn, Robert always saw the good in other people.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Jan. 31, 1994, Robert moved to Kansas City, Kan., with his parents in 2000. He attended St. Patrick School, Kansas City, Kan., and St. James Academy, Lenexa, Kan. He was a good student and enjoyed his time at both schools. Following his high school graduation in 2013, Robert enrolled at Drake University, Des Moines, where he was a freshman.
At St. Patrick Church, Kansas City, Kan., Robert lectored and was an altar server. In high school, he ran track and was involved with the yearbook and debate. Robert took piano lessons for many years and loved music. He worked summers at Sunflower Hills Golf Course and he often volunteered at Wyandot Inc., where his Dad is president and CEO.
Robert is survived by his parents; his brother, Matthew Zevenbergen and his wife, Sheri, of Cedar Rapids; and his sister, Sara Zevenbergen of Kansas City, Kan. He leaves behind three nephews, Spencer, Izaak and Miles; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and countless friends.
He loved his special grandparents, Chuck and Ardith Deason; and his special uncle, T.L. Reyes.
Robert was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be at St. Patrick Church, 94th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan., from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 24. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
