Johnson, Helen A.
Helen A. Johnson, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Fairfield, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at ManorCare, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be held in Fairfield at a later date. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Fairfield Cemetery, Fairfield.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Sylvia McGuire of Cedar Rapids and Janel Dolezal and husband Roy of West Des Moines; two sons, Chris Johnson and wife Carol and Jan Johnson and wife Sharon, both of Fairfield; sister, Wynifred Hining of Ames; brothers, Robert McCallister of Boulevard, Calif., and William McCallister of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold D. Johnson on May 31, 2007; sister, Mary Hagedorn; brother, Richard McCallister; and great-grandson, Rowan Dolezal.
Helen was born Octo. 31, 1922, in rural Cantril, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Catherine McCallister. On June 15, 1941, she married Harold D. Johnson in Fairfield. Helen was a volunteer for the Fairfield Hospital Auxiliary and member of the Sac and Fox Rock Club. She liked to send recipes and short stories to magazines.
She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.
