Robert "Bob" Guyer, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 31, 2014, at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 1363 First Ave. SW, where full military rites will be conducted. Burial will follow in Norway Cemetery in Norway. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Robert was born Nov. 27, 1919, in rural Atkins, the son of Charles and Louise (Simmer) Guyer. Bob proudly served his country during World War II, in the United States Air Corps from 1941 until 1945. He married Ardis Elaine Johnson on Jan. 23, 1943, in Atkins. After Bob's discharge, they moved to Cedar Rapids, where he worked for Hi-Way Equipment for over 30 years. Bob and Ardis enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome. They were blessed with many trips together with their family and thoroughly enjoyed their time spent camping.
Bob is survived by his children, Roger (Rita Kehl) Guyer of
Cedar Rapids, Bruce (Lois James) Guyer of Iowa City, Evan (Susan) Guyer of Tustin, Calif., and Brenda Guyer of Florida; five grandchildren, Brooke, Matthew, Megan, Dane and Grant; four great-grand-children, Brenden, Maverick, Giovanna and Ava; and a sister-in-law, Mary Johnson of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ardis on Nov. 13, 2012; and a brother-in-law, Virgil Johnson.
