VINTON - Work should begin in about a month to raze the old Benton County Law Enforcement Center, which was damaged in the floods of 2008.
Under a timeline explained to the Benton County Board of Supervisors by the architectural firm, Design Dynamics of Cedar Rapids, bids will be opened Sept. 10 and a public hearing will be five days later to review the bids and award a contract.
Demolition is expected to begin by Sept. 21 and be completed by Nov. 19.
The work will include the removal of the building as well as the placement of fill material for raising the new law enforcement center.
The board approved design drawings for the new center this month. The building will house a 32-bed jail, a 911 dispatch center, and offices for the sheriff, deputies and investigative staff.
Bids for beginning the construction phase of the project are expected to be let shortly after the first of the year.
