IOWA CITY - The trial of an Iowa City man accused of committing sex acts with an incapacitated woman will be postponed until October so his expert can review computer evidence.
Nathan Schloss, 25, faces 18 counts of third-degree sex abuse and 22 counts of invasion of privacy based on allegations he committed sex acts with a woman while she was incapacitated, and had no idea she was being recorded, from May 13, 2012, to Sept. 8, 2013.
Iowa City Police discovered the recordings when they were investigating video Schloss captured of his roommate torturing Schloss's pet cat, Fritz. Leo Nopoulos pleaded guilty to animal torture last July, court records show.
Schloss's attorney, Dean Keegan, filed a motion June 23 asking to delay his client's July 5 sex abuse trial, saying a defense expert needs more time to review computer forensic evidence.
District Court Judge Lars Anderson granted the continuance Tuesday and set the new trial date for Oct. 18. The pretrial conference will be Oct. 7 at 11 a.m.
Schloss faces up to 10 years in prison for each sex abuse charge.
