Walters, Lorraine V.
Lorraine V.Walters, 89, of McGregor, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at the Great River Care Center, McGregor. following a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, First Congregational UCC, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, both in McGregor. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home, McGregor, and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
She is survived by three children, Burton (Donna) Walters Jr., Richard Walters and Marsha (Daniel) Bickel, all of McGregor; four grandchildren, Burton Walters III, Terri (Robert) Wall, and Jeff and Jenna Bickel; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Curtis Wall; two siblings, Charles (Lora) Schott of Minnetonka, Minn., and Donald (Betty) Schott of Savannah, Ill.; and two sisters-in-law, Tammy Hazlett of Monona, and Esther Schott of Hopkinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Burton in 1979; and two brothers, Richard and William Schott.
Lorraine was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Marquette, Iowa, to Bertram and Violet (Goltz) Schott. She was baptized and confirmed at the Marquette Methodist Church. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1932. Lorraine married Burton Walters Sr. in Reno, Nev., on Oct. 2, 1943. They lived in Sausalito, Calif., before returning to Iowa. She worked as a telephone operator in McGregor; Norfolk, Va.; and Prairie du Chien, Wis. until the mid 1960s. She also worked as a cook at the school, at the McGregor library, secretary for Dr. Smith and worked at the North Iowa Times.
