Heathman, John Allen
John Allen Heathman, 76, of Toddville, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at Northbrook Manor Care, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Toddville Free Methodist Church, by the Rev. Mark Lofquist. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 674.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; daughters, Toni (Bob) Weber of Geneva and Michelle (Scott) Brokel of Ely; grandchildren, Alesha (Cody Brandt) Weber, Sean Weber, Jakob Brokel and Jessika Brokel; one great-granddaughter, Maya Brandt; siblings, Elsie (Leland) Boyles, Glenn Heathman, Joyce Trimble-Wall, Robert (Joann) Heathman, Terry Heathman, Edward (Barbara) Heathman and Marvin (Sue) Hall; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ina Hall; sister, Ila Wall; and brother, Donald Heathman.
John was born July 20, 1934, the son of Oral and Leola (Pruett) Heathman, in Shellsburg, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during the Korean conflict. On Dec. 9, 1962, John was united in marriage to Eleanor Chester in Cumberland, Iowa. He worked for the Linn County Road Department.
John enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers and small motors in his garage. He also enjoyed gardening, yard work, and was always thinking of his girls and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of John.
