Dolores McAteer, 84, of Marion, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015. Celebration of Life: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, with a visitation one hour before the service.
Dolores is survived by her daughter, Kathy (David) Wall of Cedar Rapids; sons, Pat (Ann) McAteer of Gilman and Mike McAteer of Conrad; grandchildren, Emily McAteer of South Carolina, Collin McAteer of Conrad, Katie McAteer of Gilman, Brent Wall and Shawn Wall of Cedar Rapids; great-granddaughter, Layla Kies of Vinton; two sisters, Glady McMellor of Cedar Rapids and Edna Nurre Kintz of Robins; and sister-in-law, Linda Fitzsimmons of Monticello.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John (Bud) McAteer; son, Andy McAteer; brother, Frank Fitzsimmons; and two sisters, Vida Gudenkauf and Lois Livingston.
Dolores was born Dec. 3, 1930, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Essie (Boots) Fitzsimmons. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1949. She married John Robert McAteer in Grinnell. Dolores was employed by Evangelical Hospital and the Senior Center in Marshalltown as a nurse's aid and cook. She attended the First Assembly of God in Cedar Rapids.
Dolores was a sweet and kind person who had many friends. She loved her friends at First Assembly and Hilltop Manor. She was very creative and artistic. She gave many of her crafts to her friends and family.
