Homer E. Dale, 95, of Solon, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, in the hospice unit at Mercy Iowa City.
Homer is survived by his sister, Pan Gross of Philadelphia, Pa.; his four children, Cynthia Churchill of Columbia, Mo., William Dale (Luanne) of Portland, Ore., Susan (Michael) Wall of Solon and Sally (Tom) Greene of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren, Aaron Gravesdale (Meg) of Vancouver, B.C., Sara Dale Bley (David) of Denver, Colo., Christopher Dale of Columbia, Eric Wall of Des Moines, Kurt Wall of New Orleans, La., Brian Wall of Iowa City, Thomas Greene of St. Louis, Mo., and Julia Greene of Salt Lake City, Utah; step-grandchildren, Erin Fay of Portland and Garrett (Jenny) Fay of Las Vegas; and great-grandchildren, Max, Annabelle and Chloe.
Additionally, the family would like to recognize and thank his special friend, Kelly Schmidt Lindblom of Dubuque.
Born in Minneapolis, Minn., he received his D.V.M. from Iowa State University followed by his Ph.D. in veterinary physiology from the University of Missouri. He taught at the School of Veterinary Medicine in Columbia for 28 years, where he was a beloved teacher.
In retirement, he canoed the Missouri River from its headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico. In 1993, he moved to Iowa City and was a devoted grandfather for many years.
Per his request, no services will be held. Memorials made be made to Iowa City Hospice or to the hospice unit at Mercy Iowa City.
