Shirley A. Fennern, 76, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Keystone and Vinton, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Mark Halvorson officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Keystone Cemetery in Keystone. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Shirley was born June 12, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, to Waldo and Elfrieda (Buhr) Dunker. Following graduation from high school, she received her nursing degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids. She practiced her profession at the Vinton Lutheran Home, Evergreen Estates and Hiawatha Care Center. She retired in 2010.
On Oct. 6, 1956, she was united in marriage to Marvin C. Fennern at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone. He preceded her in death Jan. 10, 2000.
Shirley was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and possessed a deep and abiding faith. She enjoyed growing and planting dish gardens and stamping and making greeting cards.
Her memory will be cherished by her children, Brian and his significant other, Linda Maholland, of Bartlesville, Okla., and Lynne Simpson of Powder Spring, Ga.; her grand-children, Brandon, Shaina and Trey; and great-grandchildren, A.J. and Brianna.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Dunker.
