Joseph F. Vanek, 76, of Boise, Idaho, passed away in his home Saturday, July 18, 2015, with his wife and family by his side.
Joe was born Dec. 3, 1938, in Oelwein, Iowa. He
graduated from Lamont High School in 1956 and attended Loras College. Joe served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Munich, Germany. He married Judy deBuhr in 1962 and they had three children.
Joe worked for United Airlines in Chicago and then in Cedar Rapids. He later married Becky Conrad in 1991. They relocated to Boise, where he retired from United after 36 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis (Stub) and Florence; and son, Scott Edward.
Joe is survived by his wife of 24 years; brothers, Jim of Glendale, Ariz., and Jerry of Weldona, Colo.; a sister, Jan Sires of Marion; his children, Susan (Joel) Lattanzi of St. Louis, Mo., and Sherry Voss (Layne) of Cedar Rapids, stepchildren, Teenah (Pat) Oldham of Cedar Rapids, Tami (Bud) Lancaster of Boise and Rob (Tori) Conrad of Chanhassen, Minn.; two grandchildren, Derek and Jillian Voss; and six stepgrand-children, Cody, Samantha, Kealey, Raegan, Riley and Griffin.
Joe was an avid reader and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed crosswords, bowling, softball, golf, skydiving, steel darts, working with wood, going to the cabin in the mountains and spending time with those he loved. And let's not forget the Freeway Express Lounge and dart league.
