Flaugh, Daniel 'Dan'
Daniel “Dan” Flaugh, 25, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at First Christian Church in Vinton, with Pastor Connie Wacht officiating. Interment will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery, north of Vinton, with graveside military rites conducted by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 of Vinton and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave., Vinton, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Dan was born Feb. 21, 1986, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton to James and Kathryn (Whitson) Flaugh, and graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 2004.
He was a SPC E4, Calvary Scout in the United States Army. He went to Boot Camp in August 2005 at Fort Knox, Ky. Dan served his country on the front line as a Re-Con scout of Bush's Surge on Baghdad, Iraq. Dan was a proud soldier and always carried candy in his pocket for the Iraqi children.
Dan was honorably discharged from the Army in November 2008. Upon returning home, Dan enrolled and attended a Commercial scuba Diving School in Jacksonville, Fla. He graduated from Kirkwood Community College with a degree in conservation sildlife. He was currently employed by Parker Hannifin Corp. of Hiawatha.
Dan was loved by all he met. His laugh and smile will forever brighten the lives he touched.
Dan is survived by his parents, James and Kathy Flaugh of Vinton; his brother and sister-in-law, Ryan and Kris Flaugh, and their children, Cade, Nic and Sydnee; Grammy Hazel Whitson and Grandma Violet Flaugh; his aunts and uncles, John (Mary) Buhr of Garrison and Dave (Diana) Whitson of Vinton; his cousins, Susie (Alan) Henkle, Stacie Buhr, Stephanie (Mike) VantSant, Jenny Whitson, Jamie (Kevin) Timmerman, and Jeffrey Whitson; and eight second cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandpas, Don Whitson and Clyde Flaugh.
A memorial fund has been established.
