All are welcome to attend a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fairfax. Due to the pandemic, masks must be worn and social distancing respected. We thank you in advance.
The family plans to hold a celebration of Gene's life at a later date when circumstances allow for larger gatherings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa Hawkeye baseball at www.donate.givetoiowa.org.
Gene was born Nov. 11, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Phyllis (Shea) Becker. He was a 1975 graduate of Norway High School. Following high school, he was a hardworking and loyal employee at Whirlpool Amana. Gene was looking forward to retiring on his 65th birthday.
Gene was a member of Parkview Church. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Cardinals, the Packers, Iowa City West baseball and, of course, the Hawkeyes. Most important to Gene was family. He spent many fun hours cheering alongside his family at sporting events.
Gene is survived by his mother, Phyllis Becker of Cedar Rapids; his siblings, Carol (Dave) Mundell of East Brunswick, N.J., Diane (Steve) Wiley of Lisle, Ill., Kathy (Charlie) Stumpff of Iowa City, Jeff (Laurie) Becker of Marengo, Julie Smith of Cedar Rapids and Alan (Cheryl) Becker of Fairfax; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Charles Becker.
