Elmer W. Benson, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.
He was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Oliver and Regina (Makepeace) Benson. He married Mildred I. Gunderson on Sept. 11, 1945, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2007.
He attended Cresco High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed for 36 years at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, retiring in 1984.
He is survived by a daughter, Patty Fratzke of Marion; a son, Ronald Benson of Shorewood, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Todd, Scottie Ben, Sloan and Nick Benson, Tiffani, Jacob (Sonya) and Mark (Molly) Fratzke and Tangee Sills; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Monique) Benson of Williamsburg, Va.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lee Benson; and two sisters, Helen Benda and Ella Jimenez.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nazareth Lutheran Church Chapel, Cedar Falls, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Visitation for one hour before the service at the chapel. Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, is assisting the family.
