Jean Brown, 94, of Clarinda, Iowa, and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, entered into peace Saturday, June 16, 2018, at The Eiler Place, Clarinda. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Clarinda Foundation, www.clarindafoundation.com. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on the funeral home website at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda.
Jean Barrett Cooper Brown died on June 16, 2018, at The Eiler Place in Clarinda, Iowa, with her family at her side. She was born in Nemaha, Iowa, on June 15, 1924, to Robert Wayne Cooper and Wilma Venette Barrett Cooper. Jean served in the U.S. Navy during World War II at the Naval Air Station, Pawtuxent River, Md. After her military service, she returned to Iowa and married fellow veteran Jack Charles Brown on March 20, 1947. They spent their married life in Cedar Rapids and were proprietors of Brown's Food Service, a Swiss Colony store and a gourmet delicatessen.
Jean is survived by her children, Scott (Nancy) Brown of Clarinda, Jill (Roger) LaForge of Indianapolis, Ind., and Janey (Lloyd) Lambert of Keymar, Md.; grandchildren, Brianna (Stephen) Cox Brownlee of London, England, and Ryan Cox of Richmond, Va.; and sister; Carol (David) Reuber of Traer, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Dorothy Ann, Merry and Margaret; and her husband, Jack.
