Theresa R. Schmickle, 97, of Walker, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at the Rehab Center of Lisbon, Lisbon, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, with the Rev. Ardel Barta officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Sacred Heart Parish Center. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Iowa.
Theresa was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Everett and Florene (Reilly) Wood. On Aug. 15, 1958, Theresa married Verl Schmickle in Hazelton, Iowa. A homemaker, she devoted her time to raising their children. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Walker American Legion Auxiliary, both in Walker.
Theresa is survived by her children, James (Dorothy) Moore of Mount Vernon, Everett (Margaret) Moore of Walker, Lois (Delwyn) Henry of Charles City and Leo "Butch" Schmickle of Toddville; 12 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Palvak of Moline, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verl Schmickle; daughter, Patricia Parker and her husband, Delton Parker; two grandsons, Robert Henry and Harry Parker; sisters, Delores Prucha, Henrietta Michael and Dorothy Pratt; and brothers, LeRoy Wood, Joe Wood and Leo Wood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Walker Legion Auxiliary.
