Marie Nielsen Brown, 93, of Anamosa, diedpeacefully Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, with her family by her side at Pinicon Place. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at First Congregational UCC, Anamosa, with interment at Cass Center Cemetery. Pastor Greg Griffin will officiate the services. Family and friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.

Surviving are two children, Russell (Connie) Brown, Anamosa, and Sue (Mick) Michael, Lexington, Ky.; four grandchildren, Shane (Mindy) Brown, Shelly (Clint) Williams, Mark Michael and Lindsay (Ben) Bowden; eight great-grandchildren, Aaron Brown, Colton and Crew Williams, and Libby, Susie, Annie, George and Jake Bowden; and four sisters-in-law, Gertrude Brown Folkerts, Joan Nielsen, Karen Nielsen and Pat Nielsen Carr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2001; and six brothers, Marvin, Robert, Raymond, Ronald, Harold and Richard.
Marie Margurette Nielsen was born April 28, 1923, near Springville. She was the daughter of Andrew and Eldeva Stone Nielsen. Marie graduated from Springville High School in 1941. Marie and George were united in marriage on Jan. 28, 1943 in Springville. The couple farmed on the Brown Family Farm in Cass Township, Jones County. In addition to being a farm homemaker, she enjoyed working at Mickey's Model Shop and Nellie-Don Flower Shop in Anamosa.
Marie was a very active member of First Congregational UCC. She also belonged to the Anamosa Garden Club, was a 4-H leader, extension service representative, president of the Iowa Porkettes and actively involved with the Iowa Pork Producers. She was a member of Cass Homemakers, Cass Church and Cemetery committee and Cass Township election committee.
Grandma Brown loved baking, sewing, gardening and spending time with her family.
