Hiawatha
Larry R. Wood, 79, of Hiawatha, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha, with military rites. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; children, Gwenda (Dan) Jarosh, Lyle Losey and Laurie McCauley; six grandchildren, Cassandra, Michael, Austin and Sean Losey, Matthew (Chrissy) McCauley and Ellen McCauley; and two great-grandchildren, Lillian and Faith McCauley.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, R. Ralph and Beulah Wood.
Larry was born in Fort Collins, Colo. After serving in the Navy, he received his degree in electrical engineering at Colorado State University. Larry had various engineering positions, until settling at Rockwell Collins, where he retired after 28 years. Larry's hobby was wood working.
His thirst was for new cars, but his passion was avionics. He got his pilot's license and did his first solo when he was 21 years old. He was building a Zenith 701 aircraft. Larry married Lois Losey on April 10, 1986. They enjoyed traveling to Europe and day trips in either a car or plane.
