Brown, Janet M.
Janet M. Brown, 82, of Williamsburg, formerly of Ladora and Robins, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial will be in Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdayat the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.
Janet is survived by husband, Thomas L. Brown, Williamsburg; children, Gary (Amy) Brown, Atlanta, Ga., Brian (Denise) Brown, Robins, and Betsy (Mitchell) Hilt, Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, April (Nicholas) Nelson and Caitlin Brown, Ames; Christy Cheung, Atlanta; Harrison Hilt, Knoxville, Tenn., and Hayden and Lydia Hilt, Nashville; sister, Harriet Siek, Blairstown; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Brown and Margery (Ed) McAdam, Victor, and Marlys Brown, North English; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father, Orlo Stoner; mother, Blanche Hevener Stoner; infant sister, Marion; and brothers-in-law, Henry Siek and Bill Brown.
Janet Mae Stoner was born at her parents' home in Ladora, Iowa, on May 23, 1931. She attended grade school in Ladora until her family moved to Marengo. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1951 and worked at Cedar Rapids Engineering and Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids for five years. She married Thomas Lavern Brown of Ladora on Nov. 4, 1956, at the Marengo Presbyterian Church. They lived on their family farm south of Ladora for 44 years. Tom and Janet built a new house in 2001 in Robins, where they resided until 2013, when they moved to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg.
In addition to being a homemaker, Janet was an active member for 45 years of Fundamental Gospel Church, where she taught children's Sunday school and was a frequent leader and participant of the women's Missionary Society. After moving to Robins she enjoyed attending Faith Bible Church and its Primetimers lunch group. She was also active in the Iowa County Cattlemen's Association Cowbelles, serving as membership chair.
