Bob was born July 29, 1924, in Iowa City, the son of Henry and Mabel (Mencel) Wood. Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Sparks on Dec. 30, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. For 28 years, Bob worked as a small engine mechanic for Pyramid Services in Iowa City. In later years, he enjoyed working for Shive-Hattery & Associates and the city of North Liberty.
His family includes his wife of nearly 68 years, Dorothy; their children, Wayne Wood and his wife, Judy, of North Liberty, and Teresa Goering and her husband, Kurt, of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Brian Dusterhoft (Twila), Jason Dusterhoft (Tina), Sharon Schott (Aaron), Adam Goering and Alex Goering; and six great-grandchildren, Brianna Dusterhoft, Leah Dusterhoft, Ellie Dusterhoft, Hayden Dusterhoft, Henry Lucy and Sarah Jane Schott.
Bob was preceded in death by their daughter, Roberta Wood, who died in 2007.
Bob's family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Iowa City Hospice, who lovingly cared for Bob over the last 18 months. With their continuous support, Bob enjoyed life on his own terms until the end.
