Steven Joseph Valvoda, 49, of Marion, passed away in his home with his family by his side after his brave battle with pancreatic cancer on Monday, July 11, 2016. Parish vigil service: 3 p.m. Friday, July 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Visitation: 3:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the funeral home. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends one hour before Mass at the church.
Steve is survived by his wife, Liza; children, Anthony, Colton, Bryce and Savannah; brothers, Larry (Diane) Valvoda of Fairfax and Dale (Sandy) Valvoda of Fort Dodge; and sisters, Sherry (Alan) Hurst of Boone, June (William) Ryan of Alburnett and Sue (David) Swanson of Rochester, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Steve was born Oct. 30, 1966, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Helen (Drilling) Valvoda. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1985. On Sept. 30, 1995, in Rochester, Minn., he married Liza Sadie Ann Solheim. Steve worked as a dock leader at SAIA Trucking in Cedar Rapids.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion.
A memorial fund has been established for the family in Steve's memory.
