Mary Marie King, 96, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, at ManorCare in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Mary was born July 20, 1922, in Madison County, Ind., the daughter of Charles H. and Rosetta M. (Helton) Johnson. In 1939, she graduated from Evanston Township High School, Evanston, Ill. On June 5, 1943, Mary was united in marriage to John R. "Bob" King in West Palm Beach, Fla. Mary worked as a telephone operator in Illinois and was a civil servant in Florida and Chicago before becoming a full-time wife and mother. She was a member of New Disciples Church.
Mary is survived by her children, William (Carolyn) King of Cedar Rapids, the Rev. Robert (Marilyn) King of Austin, Texas, and Susan (Andrew) Stenberg of Tulsa, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 2001; her parents, Charles and Rosetta Johnson; daughter-in-law, Rita King; grandson, Stephen Stenberg; and sister, Freda Lenconi.
