Ronald Lee Stahle, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, June 19, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral
Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 26, at St.
Matthew's Catholic Church, located at 2310 First Ave. NE. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Ronald was born April 28, 1938, in Iowa City, the son of Walter and Mary (Zabransky) Stahle. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Class of 1956. He attended St. John's College in Minnesota, where he studied theology. Ron worked at Penick and Ford for over 17 years. He then worked at Cargill for over 25 years and earned an award for 15 years of perfect attendance. He retired in 1999. Ron was united in marriage to Carol Rokes on April 12, 1969, at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Third Degree, Teamsters Local 238, AARP and National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library. He enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables, watching football, listening to polka music and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
Ron is survived by his children, Lisa (Dan) Thuerauf of Mount Vernon and Lori Schnier of Richardson, Texas; six grandchildren, Jacob, Julia, Christian and Annalise Schnier and Natalie and Claire Thuerauf; his sisters, Dolores McMullen of Lake Worth, Texas, and Judi Zachar of Florida; a sister-in-law, Pat Gates of Independence; his nieces and nephews; and close friends, including Matthew, Ashley and Natalee McMullen, the Greg and Jane Gates families, Sue and Ed Gipper families, Bob and June Gates families and Maurice and Julie Siebels.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol, who died Dec. 10, 2006; sisters, Louise Frazier and Marjorie Jensen; brothers-in-law, David McMullen, Ray Gates and John Zachar Jr.; and his father- and mother-in-law, George and Julia Rokes.
Memorials may be directed to St. Matthew's and/or the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in his name.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the nurses, doctors and staff of Hospice of Mercy, the ICU, including Fred, Rick M., Trent, Scott, Marty and Robin, as well as the team in surgical units at Mercy Medical Center for their loving care for Ron and his family.
