Vrba, Ruth Charlotte Marek
Ruth Charlotte Marek Vrba, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Brosh Chapel, 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before services at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Ruth was born Dec. 3, 1921, the daughter of Wesley and Mamie Unick Marek. She married Frank Vrba on March 22, 1941, in Cedar Rapids. Ruth and Frank farmed in the rural Cedar Rapids area their entire lives. Ruth loved to bowl, read, do crosswords and puzzles and be outside.
Ruth is survived by a son, Frank (Kathy) Vrba of Marengo, and a daughter, Janice Philipp of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank M. in 1968; a daughter, Catherine Jones in 1974; and a son-in-law, Mike Philipp in 2001.
