The Rev. Joan (nee Stary) Jacobus died Feb. 21, 2017, at BeeHive Homes in Excelsior, Minn.
Joan was born Nov. 26, 1947, in Cedar Rapids to Anogene and Robert Stary. She graduated from Washington High School before attending Cottey College and the University of Northern Iowa. Joan received a master of library science degree at Rosary College (Dominican University) and served schools in Burlington and DeWitt, as well as a private girls school in Cairo, Egypt. After graduation from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Joan was ordained in 1980 as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA. She served churches in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and South Dakota until her retirement in 2007. Joan married Keith Jacobus in Parker, S.D., on June 24, 2001. Following her husband's death, Joan relocated to Minnesota.
Joan is survived by her mother, Anogene Stary (Cedar Rapids); and sister-in-law, Roberta Young (Norwalk, Wis.); as well as Keith and Joan's extended families and friends.
