Julia Ann Dohrer, 54, of Iowa City, left us doing what she loved on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014. Visitation will be at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, with a rosary beginning at 3:30 p.m. A memorial Mass will be Saturday, Sept. 13, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Iowa City. Refreshments will be available at the Parish Hall immediately following the service. Burial services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. Vincent's Cemetery in Riverside.
The family asks instead of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the University of Iowa Foundation to support the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center Research Fund, P.O. Box 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244-4550.
Julia was the second youngest in a family of 10 children, born Sept. 21, 1959, in Fort Branch, Ind., where she lived until graduating from Gibson Southern High School in 1977.
She moved to Iowa City in 1978 and met the love of her life, Thomas Dohrer, at Oral B in Iowa City. They were married June 13, 1981. Julia had worked for USPS for more than 20 years. Upon the passing of her husband, Tom, she had his '06 Harley Davidson Road King converted into a trike that she drove all over the Midwest. She loved going on weekend rides with her "Biker Girls" and was devoted to her two loving, loyal pets, Heidi, the Dog, and Bo, the Cat.
She was a life member of VFW Post 2714 Ladies Auxliary, Women of the Moose and a loyal member of NALC Branch 483/373, where she served as treasurer and steward.
She was a most beloved Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She was the most loving, caring soul, who treated everyone like family. She loved everyone she met with all her heart and touched everyone she ever met deeply. She will be missed by more than she could ever know.
Julia is survived by her loving son, Aaron James; brothers, Paul and Rita and Russ and Sue Scoggins; sisters, Nancy and Dwight Rose, Bonnie and Don Adams, Jennifer and Jerry Wright, Patricia Scoggins, Terry and Kenny Taylor and Anita and Tom Miskell; her loving mother-in-law, Camilla Dohrer; brother-in-law, Michael Dohrer,; sister-in-law, Peggy and Tom Schmit; as well as 24 nieces and nephews; and 30 great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lauretta (Weber) Scoggins; her sister, Kathleen Moore; her sister-in-law, Patricia Mitchell; father-in-law, George Dohrer; and her loving husband, Thomas Dohrer, on Sept. 9, 2009.
