I'm very pleased to see the broad support Joni Ernst is getting from Iowans of all sorts after her victory in the Republican primary for our open U.S. Senate seat.
There's nothing mysterious about her appeal - she's a mother and soldier with a farm background, who understands the concerns of hardworking everyday Iowans.
We're looking for a senator who can find solutions that go past the one-size-fits-all policies that are all too common in Washington today.
Ernst would be an especially valuable voice helping to deal with the crisis in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Her opponent, who served on the vital House Veterans Affairs Committee in 2011-12, missed 75 percent of the meetings of that committee. This is especially ironic in view of his criticism of Ernst for missing non-controversial votes in the state Legislature.
Ernst shares our Iowa values and would represent us well in Washington.
