Ruth Mausser, 96, of Walker, passed away following a sudden illness on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, conducted by Father Ardel Barta. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Sacred Heart Parish Center, Walker. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walker. Arrangements made by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.
Ruth is survived by her children, Gary (Margret) Mausser of Walker, Joyce (Doug) Henderson of Fairfax and Carole (Duane) Dzingle of Marion; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ivan (Mary) Chester of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; a brother, Velmer; granddaughter, Jamie; and great- granddaughter, Zoey.
Ruth was born July 9, 1919, in Walker, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Emma Chester. She was united in marriage to Robert at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker on Oct. 16, 1941. They were married for 71 years. Ruth attended Paris Beauty Academy and owned her own shop for many years in Walker.
She loved to sew, garden, ceramics, crochet and make beautiful quilts. Ruth was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Circle and Walker Historical Society.
The family would like to thank the staff at Promise House for the loving care she received the last 2 1/2 years. The family also wants to thank Hospice of Mercy for her care in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth's name may be given to Sacred Heart Church, Walker, or a charity of your choice.
