Nickerson Sr., Daniel Lee
Daniel Lee Nickerson Sr., 59, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at First Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Timothy W. Carter. The family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private family inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Nancy; five children, Dan Nickerson Jr. and Jeff Nickerson, both of Cedar Rapids, Dan (Pamela) Butler of Knoxville, Tenn., Eric (Chris) Butler of Marion and SSG James (Emily) Nickerson of JBLM, Wash.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Donnette (Joe) Hutchins of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepbrother and his stepfather.
Dan was born Aug. 17, 1951, the son of Donald Nickerson and Rosalynne (Martin) Nickerson Fredericks in Mason City. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On June 6, 1985, he married Nancy (Pospisil) Butler in Cedar Rapids. Eighteen years ago, Dan started working at FDC/GC Service and part-time at Four Oaks, Inc. of Iowa. Then in later years after GC Service closed, he became a day coordinator at Four Oaks.
Dan was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids. He loved to read and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
He is loved by his friends and family and will live forever pain-free with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dan's memory.
