Frank Ross, 93, of Marion, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion where a Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at the funeral home by Robert Colquhoun. The family will also greet friends one hour before the service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Bill (Linda) Ross of Whittier, Judy Hutchins of Marion and Bob (Nurdan) Ross of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley (Dick) Uhrik of Richardson, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Betty Jean; parents; one brother; and four sisters.
Frank was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Carl and Hazel (Niles) Ross. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Frank married Betty Jean Lochner on Nov. 7, 1942. When honorably discharged, he returned to Cedar Rapids and worked at Quaker Oats and later was an assistant foreman for the Linn County Roads Department, retiring in 1985. Frank was a member of the American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion and Marion Masonic Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M. where he had served as a master. He was also a past member of OES No. 183 and Shrine Fraternity.
