Heck, Donald R.
Donald R. Heck, 68, of 1413 Summit View Lane SE, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, after a short illness. Services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joan; two sons, Kevin and Bryan both of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Shelley (Roger) Hutchins of Altoona and Connie (Jamie Turpin) Heck of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Arnold “Red”(Edna) Heck; a sister, Shirley Heck,; a brother-in-law, Albert Cejka, all of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and his special dog, Spot.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Megan, Molly, Matthew and Drew Heck, Mitchell and Leah Hutchins, Devin, Clinton, Kara and Monique Merrifield and Cameron and Noah Turpin.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Gary; and one sister, Janet Cejka.
Don was born on Jan. 2, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ursil and Hilda Seiler Heck. He married Joan Boman on Dec. 30, 1972 in Cedar Rapids. This year they were celebrating their 40th Anniversary. Don worked at Rockwell-Collins for over 35 years, retiring in 2001.
Don enjoyed fishing, collecting and going to antique sales. He also liked to go to car shows and he personally owned a beautiful 1966 Chevy Impala Super Sport. Don was a real family man who enjoyed the time spent with his beloved family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
