Strief, William K. 'Bill'
William K. “Bill” Strief, 68, 26306 Farm Lane, Farley, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at 3:04 p.m. at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Friends and relatives of Bill may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, where a wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Services for Bill will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. John's Catholic Church in Placid, with the Rev. Joseph Hauer officiating. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley.
William was born Jan. 23, 1942, in Dubuque, son of Kenneth and Viola (Conrad) Strief. He received his education in the former St. Clement's School and is a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph's School in Farley. On Nov. 23, 1962, he was united in marriage to Donna Simon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley. Bill was a dairy farmer in the rural Farley area for 40 years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Bill's life was his family and farm. As he tended and worked the fields he nurtured and supported the people around him. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life the most.
He was a member of St. John's Parish in Placid, for which he served on the finance committee and parish council, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2001, the Iowa Dairy Association and served as a Swiss Valley Farms board member for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Strief of Farley; seven children, Julie Strief (and special friend, Bill Wood) of Fenton, Mich., Jolene Hawley of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Lydia) Strief of Bernard, Michael (Shawn) Strief of Cascade, Janda Waters of Cedar Rapids, and Jodi (Russell) Kronlage of Epworth, Matt (Kristi) Strief of Farley; one daughter-in-law, Chris (Dean) Schrader of Monticello; 22 grandchildren; four siblings, Donna (Charles) Martin of Dubuque, Pat (Donna) Strief of Farley, Bob (Minde) Strief and Carol (Mike) Nietzke, all of Sac City; and many brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Martin Strief on August 23, 1996.
A William K. Strief memorial fund has been established.
