He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; and two brothers, David and Marvin.
Lyle Ehlts was born Sept. 27, 1940, at Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of William and Erma Boots Ehlts. He graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 1958. Lyle served in the U.S. Army from 1960 until 1965. He returned from service and worked as a truck driver for Harold Gottleaber at Rite-Way Feed Service in Monticello. Lyle married Carol Ann Cole on Feb. 16, 1963, at St. Luke's Methodist Chruch, Monticello.
Lyle was employed at Iowa Manufacturing, later Cedar Rapids Inc., as a steel fabricator most of his working career.
Lyle was a tinkerer and inventor and was always in his garage working on something. He loved to do wood-working as well. Going camping or going to the Old Threshers Reunion were always family trips. But spending time with his grandchildren was always the most important. Lyle never missed going to the Great Jones County Fair.
