CEDAR RAPIDS - Local not-for-profit Horizons, A Family Service Alliance has named a new leader.
The 501(c)(3) organization has appointed Mary Wheeler of Iowa City as its new president and CEO. Most recently, Wheeler was the program officer of health and wellness with the Twin Cities Local Initiative Support Corp. in St. Paul, Minn.
'Having been raised in Iowa City, I am excited to be closer to family and to be part of this community,” Wheeler said in a news release.
Horizons Board Chair Bret Niles said Wheeler's experience 'will help Horizons and the community in navigating the challenges that currently exist in our area.”
Wheeler replaces Karl Cassell, who previously served as the CEO and president of Horizons. Cassell resigned in August.
In June, Horizons and Iowa City-based Elder Services Inc. announced they would combine their staffs to prepare for potential federal budget cuts.
