Busch, Don Marshall
Don Marshall Busch, 74, of Lost Nation, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A celebration of his life service will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation, with the Rev. Keith Larson and AIM Barbara Tobiason officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Lost Nation Cemetery. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services in Lost Nation is in charge of arrangements.
Don was born May 7, 1936, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Ivan and Dorothy (Schultz) Busch. He graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1954. He married Rochelle Fleming on Dec. 1, 1956, in Lost Nation.
He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Don had a great love for his family and farming. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces participate in sporting events. He farmed all of his life in Lost Nation and he was known by many as “Farmer Busch.” In earlier years he served on the Lost Nation Fire Department.
Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rochelle; daughters, Marsha (John) Schulte of Cedar Rapids and Lori (Jay) Hatch of Davenport; four grandchildren, Jacob and Hunter Schulte and Emily and Erin Hatch; two sisters, Joyce (Robert) Porter of Geneseo, Ill., and Janet (Ronald) Easton of Eastman, Wis.; nephews, Scott Porter of Dixon, Illinois and Andy (Chris) Porter of Clarendon Hills, Ill.; and nieces, Ronda Rife of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Ann (Ken) Kitterman of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Lost Nation Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
